Thursday 26th June 2008A treat for DiamondDiamond received a real treat recently in the form of a life sized chital deer pinata. The pinata was created from cardboard boxes by children from St. Mary's School, Timsbury, near Bath, as part of their cross-curricular 'tigers' project. The children made the pinata at school, then brought it with them on their residential visit to the Isle of Wight. Pieces of meat were hidden inside the pinata before placing it into Diamond's enclosure. The tiger certainly made short work of the children's handiwork, tearing it to pieces to get to the meat before carrying the 'carcass' off into the undergrowth. As well as creating big cat enrichment, the children have been engaged in fund-raising, raising more than £300 towards the work of the IOW Zoo. They also donated an original painting by a local artist for the zoo to sell to raise more funds. The staff and animals at the Isle of Wight Zoo would like to say a huge thank you to St. Mary's for their support. Read more about Diamond
