SCHOOL VISITS AND WILDHEART OUTREACH

At the Wildheart Trust we are committed to providing high quality learning opportunities for every student, using our knowledge of the natural world to inspire students and enhance their educational experience. We love welcoming you to the zoo to visit our amazing animals, and we love going out to schools across the Island to teach and inspire the young conservationists of the future.

We know you will be adapting to lots of changes as you go back this term to make sure everyone stays safe, but we are here to reassure you that our education team is open for business and keen to support you in any way we can.

We continually monitor government guidelines to ensure we have all necessary controls in place to safeguard our visitors. Being a large open air site means we are ideally placed to offer unique outdoor learning opportunities in a safe environment. If you would like to discuss bringing your class to the zoo please do not hesitate to contact us. We already have rigorous measures in place to keep you safe and we are very happy to work within your school’s own protocols.

Or why not bring the zoo to you! If you are unable to venture out with your students our education team will visit your school, bringing along a selection of artefacts and live animals to enrich your students’ learning. Each session can be tailored to your curriculum needs, to ensure we continue to offer first class learning support no matter what the key stage or group size. Every visit is fully risk assessed to ensure compliance with Covid-19 protection measures.

If you would like to chat with a member of our team to find out more please email your contact details to Tracy at education@isleofwightzoo.com and we’ll get back to you at the earliest opportunity.

It’ll be grrrrrreat to see you again!

EDUCATION SESSIONS

Experience has shown us that groups get the most from their visit if they book an education session. We make no additional charge for these sessions.

If you book a general education session your group will receive a short talk followed by a zoo tour. The content of the session will be pitched at an appropriate level for your students and will include animal behaviour, adaptation, habitats and wildlife conservation.

Alternatively you may prefer a taught session on a particular topic. We are always happy to provide such sessions as long as we are given sufficient notice of your learning objectives.

Please also let us know if any of your pupils have specific needs.

IF YOU NEED TO AMEND YOUR BOOKING AFTER IT HAS BEEN CONFIRMED:

Please contact the education officer at the earliest opportunity if you need to change the date or time of your visit or to cancel your booking. During busy periods education sessions become booked up very quickly, so please understand that if you cancel your booked slot, we may not be able to offer you an alternative.

RISK ASSESSMENT

We encourage teachers to make an exploratory pre-visit to the zoo free of charge before bringing their pupils. This will help you to plan your day in detail and to carry out your risk assessment.

If you would like to take advantage of this offer please contact the education officer to make the necessary arrangements. If you are unable to visit in advance you are welcome to use our risk assessment as a model for your own. This document also includes our code of conduct.

If you would like a copy of our general site COVID-19 risk assessment, please get request it when you get in touch with us.
